Cellular plastics plant requires versatile IT services

“Mainly, we procure devices as a service, meaning we pay a monthly fee based on the number of users.”

Every industry needs IT to support its daily operations. “In our work, we need devices, internet connections, and servers to run typical tools like email, Skype, and Teams. In addition, enterprise resource planning systems and 3D modelling software for our designers are part of our daily toolkit,” explains Joni Kotro, Production Engineer at Pohjoismainen Solumuovi.

The cellular plastics plant relies on Tietokeskus for a variety of IT needs. “Tietokeskus takes care of our servers, including maintenance, updates, and preventive troubleshooting. We receive technical support and consulting for virtually all IT matters. They also provide cybersecurity training and conduct risk assessments. So many projects have been handled over the years,” Kotro says.

IT services available on a monthly subscription

For just over a year, Pohjoismainen Solumuovi has been acquiring IT solutions via a service model, i.e., as a monthly subscription package. “Mainly, we procure devices as a service, meaning we pay a monthly fee based on the number of users. In addition, we have a help desk service,” Kotro explains.

“There are many benefits to this service model. Firstly, it makes budgeting much easier, as IT costs can be calculated precisely based on the number of employees and a fixed monthly fee. Secondly, it offers flexibility. If the business changes in either direction, the service can scale accordingly with one month’s notice. Of course, it is also a major advantage that the client always has the latest, fully functional devices available,” explains Tietokeskus Account Manager Markus Murto.

Such a long history that no one remembers its beginning

Tietokeskus has been assisting with IT matters for so long that the start of the collaboration is no longer remembered. “Pohjoismainen Solumuovi has been a client longer than I’ve worked at Tietokeskus,” Murto says. “Tietokeskus was our partner even when I started in this role over nine years ago,” Kotro confirms.

The secret to the long collaboration is flexible operations, mutual understanding, and familiar people. “It’s much easier to handle IT with a partner who knows and understands us. Tietokeskus knows what we need and what our operating environment is like. That makes things much simpler,” Kotro says with satisfaction.
