IT infrastructure audit revealed modernisation needs for Miilukangas’ server environment

“During the audit, it became clear that most areas were in good shape, but the server infrastructure was outdated and in need of an update. The report was very comprehensive and highlighted even significant issues that should be addressed.”

Miilukangas employees had been experiencing IT-related issues in their daily work: workstations were slow, and applications opened and ran sluggishly.

“Usually slowness is blamed on the computer or network,” explains Tietokeskus consultant Markus Tuomi, continuing, “but it can also be caused by the server or outdated software, as was the case here.” The server infrastructure audit revealed the causes of the slow performance at Miilukangas.

The audit had also been considered for another reason. “We wanted to implement, for example, device management and security, but the existing infrastructure didn’t allow it. We had been thinking about conducting an audit for some time, and Markus from Tietokeskus brought it up at the right moment and explained the benefits very clearly,” says Miilukangas’ CIO Jari Kangasharju.

The report revealed the situation

The audit focused on Miilukangas’ Active Directory, its technical implementation, and associated services. The team examined in detail how the server infrastructure was built, how it functioned, and what problems existed. The overall situation was also reviewed from a cybersecurity perspective.

“The audit provided valuable data about the current state. The report included a comprehensive overview as well as detailed development recommendations,” Tuomi explains.

“During the audit, it became clear that most areas were in good shape, but the server infrastructure was outdated and in need of an update. The report was very comprehensive and highlighted even significant issues that should be addressed. We have already scheduled these measures for the coming months. The audit provides a sense of security and confidence that we are developing the infrastructure in the right direction,” Kangasharju adds.

Maintenance and development for the future

After the audit, Miilukangas began modernisation measures and decided to change the server infrastructure provider. Tietokeskus was chosen as the new partner.

“Going forward, we will ensure that the infrastructure and the applications running on it are up to date. Once the entire environment is updated, we can continue with other development areas that Miilukangas wants to pursue,” Tuomi explains.

As a side project, multi-factor authentication (MFA) has already been implemented. The adoption of other cloud-based security services is also planned. Thus, the collaboration continues not only in maintenance but also through various development projects.

“Businesses are increasingly dependent on IT solutions, and choosing partners close enough to support them is crucial. Finding the right partner enables growth and ensures business continuity,” Kangasharju concludes.
