Tietokeskus has been calculating its entire operational carbon footprint (scope 1, 2 and 3) in accordance with the GHG Protocol since 2022. In 2023, the company set a target to reduce direct emissions from its own operations by at least 10%.
Tietokeskus exceeded this target significantly, achieving a 26% reduction in operational emissions. The reductions were primarily achieved through upgrades to heating energy solutions and a decrease in the use of fossil fuels. The company’s environmental policy underpins these goals and also supports Tietokeskus’ customers in reducing their own environmental impacts.
“Interest among our customers in reducing emissions related to IT operations has grown considerably. We are committed to providing increasingly sustainable IT services and to innovating new, greener solutions for our clients,” says Janne Lipiäinen, CEO of Tietokeskus.
Tietokeskus’ dedication to a more sustainable IT sector is yielding tangible results. Its certified quality and environmental management systems, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, ensure consistent progress in sustainability and achievement of environmental targets.
“In 2023 alone, we recycled 26,000 devices through our recycling service, the majority of which were refurbished for new end-users. Our recycling service is just one of many environmental initiatives and represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future,” Lipiäinen adds.
